Letter regarding "dangerous times" and how Francis will stand with the Union if it comes to it but feels that this is a fight between extreme North and extreme South. Both he and Joseph were like many Marylanders pro Union but also hoping to keep slavery. He then goes on to talk about graduating from Washington College and possible future plans.
