Letter from Francis Lockerman in Prince George County to Joseph Burchinal beginning "as you will not write to me I suppose I will have to write to you." Lockerman continues on to describe the troops stationed "all along the road from Washington to the Relay House" and the appearance of three troops at the Agricultural College "to get something to eat." Lockerman mentions Mary Sparks, Merrit Beck, and asks Burchinal about his study of law. Lockerman also discusses his health, recent injuries, and his desire to join his grandfather and Margaret in Somerset.
