Letter from Francis Burchinal at Tudor Hall to Joseph Burchinal regarding the recent deaths of two mutual acquaintances, Ben Vickers and J.J. Edwards. Burchinal speculates that "Merrit Rick has not joined the Confederate Army, he is afraid of being hurt" and that "Chestertown does not look like the same place to [Burchinal]" due to the increasing war escalations. Lockerman writes that "the happiest days of my life have been spent at 'Old Washington College'" and reminisces about old friendships. Lockerman asks Burchinal if he is engaged or courting anyone, and writes that he is enclosing a photograph of himself even though Burchinal did not request one.
