Description Page Barroll grew up in the Kent County area during World War II. She was born in 1939. She was a young child during the war, however, she was able to give accounts of her father and uncle working for a grain company and her family’s efforts during the war. Her family did as much as they could for the war effort from rationing food to bundling papers. She has letters from her family in England during the War. Barroll would make care packages with her mother to send to the children in England and the American soldiers in the POW camps during the War.
In the interview with Barroll, she discusses her childhood growing up surrounded by war. She talks about how the War effected her church and school. She is able to descriptively recall what it was like to ration food and clothes, to have air raids and blackouts, to hear the news from the radio and newspapers, and what it was like to have family in England. She also discusses how she would be able to go to Ocean City, Maryland for vacation every summer and how the beaches became polluted when the War started.
