Mary was born in Philadelphia in 1918. She talks about finding out about the invasion of Poland by the Nazis, and her dating life in Washington, D.C., during the war, working for the Red Cross. She married in 1942 to a man who could not serve during the war but was asked to raise chickens, and teach High School, for the war effort.
