Wayne Skains, a World War II veteran, recalls his experiences before, during, and after the war, including working at the A&P Tea Company before enlisting. He vividly remembers hearing about the Pearl Harbor attack and volunteering for the Army soon after. After basic and specialized training, Wayne's unit prepared engineer equipment in England for shipment to France, where they marked equipment for the D-Day invasion. Wayne participated in combat operations with the 75th Infantry Division, experiencing constant fear and surviving a truck accident during a convoy. After the war, Wayne worked in various roles, including processing personnel for return home and managing a displaced persons camp in France, emphasizing the importance of focusing on positive memories despite the hardships of war.
