Sigrid Whaley was born on July 4, 1931, in Pomerania, she recounts her wartime experiences, including fleeing from the advancing Russian troops in 1945. She describes her childhood on a farm, witnessing the effects of war, and her family's journey to safety. Despite hardships, she recalls the support of neighbors and eventually resettling in the United States. Reflecting on post-war life in Hamburg, she recalls the challenges of reconstruction and scarcity. Sigrid shares memories of the journey by freighter and the difficulties of the trip, including seasickness and fear of bombings.
