Phil Hogue served almost four years in the Army Air Corps as a mechanic working on P-47 Thunderbolts in Richmond, Virginia. Hogue was in college when the war started and enlisted in 1943. He spent a lot of time at Camp Fannin in Texas during his enlistment and was being processed for shipment overseas when the atomic bombs were dropped.
