His father tells him that his brother Lawrence arrived home and visited the doctor about his fever, and tells him to come home if he starts feeling bad. He is sending his coat and recommends that he a preventative medicine, Seiditz powder, for "this Gripp." It also mentions that Carlton Walls received a scholarship.
